Infographics
I thought this infographic looked interesting. I think it connects to student’s eating habits. We could survey students and see where they go during lunch. I bet mostly everyone go to a fast food restaurant like McDonald.

Library Post #7
I talked to Ms. Marie on January 5 during lunch. Ms. Marie told me that nothing really interesting has happened at the library, but there has been an increase of students at the library during lunch. It was really noisy this week at the library.
Library Beat Report #6
I talked to Ms. Marie on December 10 after school. She talked about the new board of education meeting. She was quite upset about the meeting’s decision. The meeting was about using the surplus money the board of education received to let library media technician like Mrs. DiFranco to stay at a high school’s library full-time. I wrote an article about this meeting called ” reinstatement denied to library techs”.
Library Beat Report #5
I talked to Mrs. DiFranco on November 30 at the library during lunch. She said that the library bought new books especially graphic novels. A lot of students have already checked them out. The library is trying to survive on their budget cuts, but nothing positive or negative has happened.
Library Beat Report #4
I forgot to post my beat, but I e-mailed Ms. Marie on November 24 and she replied back on November 25. She said that nothing really interesting has happened at the library, but the library has had cuts done on checkouts. She also said the library has ordered 30-50 new books.
Library Beat Report #3
I e-mailed Mrs.DiFranco on October 27 and she replied back on October 28 around 8:00 am. Ms. DiFranco said that the books they ordered were bought from Borders and cost $700 dollars. Most of the books were fictions and graphic novels. My friend has already put a lot of the books on holds. Most of the books she has on hold are vampire romance fiction similar to the Twilight Series.
Library Beat Report #2
I e-mailed Ms. Maire on October 16 and she replied back on October 18. Ms. Marie said that the library ordered new books and some of the new books were added to collection. The check out and patrons served statistics were in for September and they were lower than September 2008.
Photography Assignment
I took pictures of the Environmental Club recycling and gardening on October sixteen in Washington’s school garden. I’m not very good at taking photos and photo composition is a new concept to me so I’m not really sure if I defined the rules right. The people I photographed were freshman Deepika Ragavan, freshman Angela Chung, junior Wei Chen Chang, junior Ying Jiang, junior Hao Lun Huang, junior Ming Chung Kyan, junior Qusai Elnimri, junior Ahmed Syed, and junior and environmental club treasurer Dylan Mahood.

Freshmen Angela Chung and Deepika Raghavan digging up weeds.
You can see contrast because the shovel stands out from Raghavan’s dark clothes and so does Chung’s bright yellow jacket. The main viewpoint is Chung and Raghavan, but Chang, Jiang, and Kyan are the background focus.

Juniors Wei Chen Chang, Hao Lun Huang, and Ying Jiang gazing into the pond.
Depth is used in this photo because although the main focus is on Chang, Huang, and Jiang there are other object in the photo like the chair and the bucket on the edge. The rule of thirds is presented in the picture because Chang and Huang, are both at the intersection of two lines.

Junior Dylan Mahood holding a marigold seed.
The main viewpoint of this picture is Mahood while the other environmental club members are in the background. There is a use of contrast because Mahood’s black shirt makes him stand out from the background.

Junior Dylan Mahood pulling the grass weeds with all his might.

Freshmen Angela Chung and Deepika Raghavan cleaning the pond with a net.
The main focus of this photo is Chung and Raghavan. The pole of the net acts as a leading line which causes people to follow the pole and see the net. There was a creative angle because I took the photo from a high viewpoint. This photo is a close up photo because I zoomed in to focus on Chung, Raghavan, and the pond. This is one of my favorite photos because I liked how the photo looked serene. There is a lot of details in this photo like the movement of the water moving with the net .

Freshman Deepika Raghavan, freshman Angela Chung, junior Dylan Mahood, and junior Wei Chen Chang in the newly built greenhouse acquiring equipments.
There is a peak of emotion because you can see that Chung is laughing. Raghavan was telling Chung how it smelled in the greenhouse and Chung laughed. You can also see that Raghavan put her arm on her nose so she would not have to smell the inside of the greenhouse. There is a use of framing because both Chung and Raghavan act like a frame for Mahood.

Freshmen Deepika Raghavan and Angela Chung talking and laughing waiting for instructions.
There is the rule of thirds because both Raghavan and Chung are at the point of intersection of two lines. The use of background does not complicate with the focus. The photo has a simplicity that makes both Raghavan and Chung stand out. There is a peak of emotion because you can see that both Raghavan and Chung are happy and seem like they are having a good time.

Juniors Ahmed Syed and Qusai Elnimri relaxing on the chairs before instructions.
The background blends in with Syed and Elnimiri and does not complicate the main focus. You can see that Elnimri is relaxed because he has his foot on top of the table. There is a peak of emotion because you can see the smile on Elnimri’s face.
Video Casts
I found a high school news video from Sonoma Valley High School at http://svhsvideo.com/. They have a broadcast news video every week. The video is 30 minutes and the students talked about sports, weathers, public service announcemnet, 9-11 Tribute, Obama Education, and more. There was two guys , one named David, I didn’t get the other guy’s name. They were the news anchor and introduce each section like weather and sports. Annie and Andy introduce the sports and it showed video of the high school’s water polo team and interview people that played sports. Laura and Nathaniel talked about the weather by walking outside talking about the weather. The video was vey interesting because the students made it very entertaining and funny to watch. The clips on the water polo team made it easier to see how the team was doing and showing footage of 9-11 made it more interesting to watch. The video was really good because the students were all lively and entertaining and had many footages that made the video more colorful.
Library Beat Report
I contacted Ms.Marie, our school’s librarian. I sent an e-mail to Ms.Marie on Tuesday, September 21 around 7:00 pm and she replied back the next day. Ms. Marie said that she would like to see an article interviewing students on how the library budget, hour, and service cuts are affecting them. She also provided a story about new books on order for the library. Ms. Marie and Ms.DiFranco also switch places every week between Washington and American High School because the librarian at American retired.
